Fun Report: Digital Cleanliness

Childish adults are the best kind of adults

Lint

Corporations are stockpiling oceans of data SO worthless. Tracking where your eyes linger, how long you hover, which pixel you tapped and then regretted tapping. If meaning were a measure of storage, they’d be archiving the digital equivalent of lint.

We’re torching rare earth metals and diverting rivers to cool servers storing nothing but our digital footprints of hesitation. Strip-mining a mountain to archive the receipt for a sandwich we never ate.

We’re wasting the Earth to save literal bullshit. 400 million TERABYTES PER DAY of this nonsense. 220 ZETTABYPTES PER YEAR!!

We’re trading our descendant’s future for this garbage.

”Not in my name”

Boycotting stuff is pointless. We all know this.

Demand decreases -> companies still want to profit as much/more than before -> decrease production costs -> product gets cheaper -> sell more than before

For example, when demand for fuel dropped, oil companies didn’t scale back, they invented new plastic products for people to “need,” ensuring the oil kept flowing.

Another example is veganism. You stop buying meat to spare the animals, the factory farm crams twice as many chickens into the same cage, halve the price per pound, and sell more chicken than ever before.

There are no floor to what they’ll liquidate of our children’s inheritance. Not the rivers, not the topsoil, not the climate that made civilization possible.

It almost pushes one towards accelerationism…

Consciousness > boycott

Better than boycott is to stop being a p-zombie today!

Consciousness is magical and fun!

  • Notice what is actually fun and what isn’t. Stop doing the things that are not actually fun.
  • Notice what makes you feel good and what doesn’t.
  • Notice which behaviors you do automatically and consciously stop doing the bad ones.
  • Quit your addictions
  • Abandon the goals you’re working towards that were set by others.
  • Set goals that are truly yours
  • Stop reading from the script. Say something new.
  • Remember that you’re obligated to literally nothing
  • Reject convenience at every opportunity

Concrete examples

  • Delete all the photos and videos you’ll never look at again - such a relief to let go
  • End your online subscriptions - stop consuming garbage
  • Delete your social media accounts - make your own website instead, be IRL social
  • Borrow stuff from the library - feels like stealing and stealing is fun
  • Support pirates over mega-corporations - stealing is fun
  • Buy refurbished electronics instead of new ones
  • Buy second-hand clothes and objects instead of new ones
  • Never impulse-buy anything ever again - feeling smart is fun
  • Eat leftovers.
  • Ride your bike as transportation - sell your car, quit your gym
  • Get a job you actually like to do
  • One pair of shoes is plenty

Let’s all be cavemen again

One day, humans will live in the stone age again. There’s no doubt about it. The question is when the crash will happen, and how many billions will die in it.

No matter how slowly we use our non-renewable resources, they are non-renewable and will therefore run out eventually.

Get used to the caveman lifestyle and you’ll have more fun today!
